Program Overview

Join us for a timely and engaging expert led discussion regarding the newest evidence-based approaches for the management of patients with chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) throughout the life cycle of the disease.  The roundtable discussions will focus on appropriate monitoring and testing, selection and tailoring of treatment, as well as addressing barriers through the integration of new and emerging therapeutics into the existing treatment paradigm for CML.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for practicing physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, and physician assistants who have an interest in enhancing their clinical skills in the treatment of patients with CML.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this educational activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Compare and contrast TKI therapy options in the front line setting based on clinical trial evidence including efficacy and safety with considerations for trial limitations
  2. Select appropriate TKI therapy for newly diagnosed, treatment-naïve, chronic-phase CML patients according to patient-specific risk factors
  3. Relate causes of primary and secondary resistance, appropriate testing and monitoring when they occur, and interventions to overcome them
  4. Recall clinical findings related to efficacy and safety, as well as trial limitations for agents undergoing investigation for overcoming the T315I mutation, their mechanisms of action, and the importance of clinical trial referral for such patients
  5. Select appropriate treatments for progressive disease, accelerated phase and blast crisis CML based on each patient’s historical response, adverse event tolerance level, risk factors, and the recognition of the appropriate setting for AHSCT
  6. Demonstrate appropriate CML patient management throughout all phases of CML including current practice guideline recommendations for treatment response monitoring, tailoring of therapy, supportive care, TKI side-effect management, and strategies to ensure adherence to therapy
